Border Relay For Life is a fun and moving experience that raises vital funds for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support services. Relay is a chance for the community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, those going through a cancer experience and their carers, to honour and remember loved ones lost and to raise money to help save more lives. Let’s gather your friends, family, colleagues or community groups, and join with other local community members, to take part in Cancer Council’s 22nd Border Relay For Life and make strides towards a cancer free future: start or join a team in the 2024 Border Relay today!

Registration

Relay For Life offers pricing for adults, youth and families depending upon how early you register prior to your event. Please refer to the below table for more information.

Relay Shirts

As part of your registration we are pleased to provide Relay For Life shirts for all registered team members. If you can provide the sizes required below we will have these prepacked for you available to collect at your next team information meeting. 

Shirt sizes are Kids 6, 8 and 10, and Adults Small - 5XL. Shirts are of mixed designs.

    What happens on the day?

    Get excited because the Relay has arrived!

    Here's what to expect at Relay:

    • Opening Ceremony
    • Survivors and Carers Walk followed by morning tea
    • Entertainment and kids activities
    • Candlelight Ceremony of Hope
    • Closing ceremony
    • Keep those team members walking!

    You don’t have to stay on the track all night, but we encourage teams to have at least one person on the track at all times to get the most out of your Relay experience.

    What to bring to Relay

    Be sure to come to Relay prepared! Check the forecast the night before and be prepared for inclement weather. Remember, Relay runs overnight and can be cold. Here’s a list of things that teams should be sure to have handy on the day:

    • Tent(s),marquees for your campsite
    • Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm
    • Your Relay For Life shirt
    • Comfortable walking/running shoes
    • Warm clothing (pants, jackets, beanies, gloves, etc.)
    • Torch and spare batteries
    • Wet weather gear (raincoat, poncho, umbrella, etc.)
    • A change of clothes
    • Camping gear (Tent, sleeping bag, pillows, blankets, esky, cutlery, cups, water bottle, food and drink.
    • Folding chairs and tables
    • Plastic sheeting or rubber-backed rug (good on cold or damp ground)
    • Campsite decorations and team banners
    • Team costumes
    • Money and loose change
    • Camera to capture those special moments
    • Any used or unused raffle books
    • Your team!

    What not to bring

    • Pets (guide dogs and service dogs are welcome)
    • Bikes, scooters or roller blades/skates
    • Glass
    • Fundraising money that you want to bank (please bank any money prior to the event or the next business day after Relay)
    • Remember, Relay For Life is a smoke-free event.

    Relay For Life is a time for our community to come together and celebrate cancer survivors, remember those who are no longer with us and fight back against cancer.

    If you or anyone you love has ever heard the words ‘you have cancer’, you know how much if affects us and the people around us. None should face cancer alone, so whether you’re a Survivor or Carer, getting involved in your local Relay For Life can introduce you to others who are facing similar challenges and create opportunities for sharing stories, friendship and hope.

    To honour your inspiring journey, you’re invited to be our Guest of Honour at Relay For Life.

    You can choose to walk in the Survivor and Carer’s Lap of Honour or just come along for the celebrations.

    We are currently finalising details for Survivors and Carers. We encourage you to pre-register for the Survivors and Carers Lap and we will notify you once details are confirmed.

    Under 18s

    Parent or Guardian Consent

    If you are under 18 years of age, you are required to have a parent or guardian complete a Parental Consent Form before the event.

    This form will be emailed to youth upon registering for the event.

    All youth are required to have the consent of their parent/guardian via the form above. Failure to do so will result in the youth being unable to attend the Relay For Life event.

    There will be limited on the day registrations available.

    Youth Team Supervisors

    All participants under 18 years of age are required to have a supervisor over the age of 21 present with their team for the duration of the event.

    You must register your supervisor by completing the Youth Supervisor Form that is emailed to you upon registering as a youth. It is the responsibility of the parent, guardian, team captain or youth to ensure the youth supervisor has completed this form.


    If a youth team attends Relay For Life without the required number of supervisors over the age of 21, the team will not be able to participate.

    Please note that for youth teams, you must have 1 supervisor per 10 youth participants.

    COVID-19 information

    COVID-19 restrictions and requirements are forever changing, and as a result, this Relay For Life event is subject to change. Here at Cancer Council NSW, we will follow the latest advice and guidelines from the NSW Government to ensure the safety of everyone involved in a Relay For Life 2024.???

    Local Impact information

    Transport 2 Treatment (T2T)
    Cancer Council’s FREE Transport to Treatment service has travelled more than 445,000km since inception in 2016. T2T has transported people in and around the Border experiencing a cancer diagnosis and most in need, to their cancer related appointments. Our volunteer drivers continued to operate through the ongoing COVID pandemic and just in the last 12 months have generously donated more than 4,500 hours of their time, helping us to provide this vital service. Albury is the busiest service in the state. There is 3 cars operating Monday to Friday to ensure patients can get to and from their treatment and other cancer related appointments.

    Cancer Council Liaison Officer
    Kate Pallot is our Cancer Council Liaison Officer based in the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre. Kate works in partnership with the treatment teams to support people undergoing treatment and their families with reliable, evidence-based information. Kate connects people with practical and emotional support services throughout their cancer journey.

    Cancer Council Information Service (CCIS)
    The Cancer Council Information Service operates within the Albury Wodonga Regional Cancer Centre. Our volunteers provide support to patients and carers, and directing them to information and support services provided by Cancer Council NSW.

    Local Prevention Programs
    Helping to reduce cancer on the Border by encouraging people to lead healthy, cancer-smart lifestyles. This includes Improve Your Long Game at local golf clubs, SunSmart initiative at local schools and encouraging the uptake of National Cancer Screening Programs. Cancer Council has recently worked closely with Albury City Council to highlight the importance of shade in playgrounds across the local community. Council has conducted an audit of sun safety across all 86 playgrounds in the LGA in an effort to improve shade.

    Screening
    Screening is an integral part of Cancer Council's prevention strategy as it can detect cancer when it is still in its early stages. There are a number of national screening programs available in the community including breast, bowel and cervical screens.
    Our Cancer Council Talks program is aimed at delivering talks to the community to educate people on how they can reduce their cancer risk and create awareness on what we do at Cancer Council. You can book a Cancer Council Talk by calling Cancer Council on 02 6937 2600.

    13 11 20 – Information & Support
    Cancer Council's 13 11 20 Information and Support line is a free, confidential phone service staffed by specialist cancer professionals. Our support line logs more than 500 calls each year from the Border community, many of whom have received financial assistance from Cancer Council NSW. This emergency funding helps people living with cancer pay for those things that a cancer diagnosis does not halt, things such as household bills, home help and rates. This support line also helps people with pro bono legal and financial advice as well as a range of other practical and emotional support.

    Terms & Conditions  

     

    1. i. 1st Prize is a $5,000 Helloworld Travel Albury Voucher, redeemable online or instore at Helloworld Travel Cannot be redeemed for cash. Must be redeemed through Helloworld Albury, Wodonga or Wangaratta only. The winner must pay any travel requirements above the Prize value of $5,000. 3-year validity from the time the prize is drawn. Prize winner can transfer voucher amount to someone else, if this is agreed upon by all parties. Prize can be used to purchase flights, insurance, accommodation and or tours - domestically or internationally. The voucher does not have to be used in one transaction and can be used over multiple bookings.
    2. The Prizes cannot be upgraded, downgraded or exchanged for cash or credit or used for trade in purposes.
    3. Start date and closing dates of raffle are 9:00AM 12th Jun2 2024 until 4:00PM 26th October 2024.
    4. iv. Tickets are $5 each or three for $10.
    5. Raffle to be drawn at 2024 Border Relay For Life Closing Ceremony at 9:00AM on Sunday 27th October 2024. Prize winner’s will be notified via telephone call, post on the Border Relay For Life Facebook page in days after the Relay.
    6. vi. If any of the raffle prize winner/s do not claim their prize by 1st January 2025 there will be an 'unclaimed prize draw' at Commercial Club Albury on Friday 10th January 2025 at 10am. Prize winner’s will be notified via telephone call, post on the Border Relay For Life Facebook page.
